Regrets Of A Father

Episode #32

In this episode, Doug and Tim discuss the regrets of a father and the importance of giving your time and presence to your family.

Fathers are builders because they build something for their family and for their future. They are often away from their family to hustle and make money so that someday they can do all things with their loved ones. But…what happens is they wake up one day realizing how much time has passed.

We talk about the importance of providing emotionally. Giving your partner, your kids, your family & friends your quality time. Being physically and emotionally present for them is beyond any amount of money because it is the memory and the legacy that you leave to them.

This is a wake-up call to start making a change. Recognize your priorities as a father and set your life up in accordance with your priorities.

Spend quality time with your kids, play with them while you still can, appreciate and educate them because these are the values that will be instilled to them as they grow old…not the money as their priority.

In this episode you will learn:

  1. The importance of quality time and presence
  2. Importance of proving emotionally for the family
  3. Knowing your priorities as a father
  4. Matching your calendar with your priorities

Making Sure Your Business Serves Your Life Instead of Your Life Serving Your Business

Episode 29

In this episode, Doug and Tim discuss some ways on how to make sure your business serves your life instead of your life serving your business.

First, we need to know the main WHY for the business and if it still serves its purpose. As leaders and business owners, we sometimes lose ourselves in the hustle and forget why we do it in the first place.

Second, we need to pay attention to our own stress levels. We should not be sacrificing our own happiness, hobbies or personal relationships just to build or run an organization. Our energy should be managed in a way that allows us to still enjoy our lives while doing our jobs at the same time.

By doing something meaningful in our business we also gain fulfillment and sense of purpose in life.

If some things are not working, take a pause, take ownership and make a change. Figure out what you really want and make a plan on how to make it happen. Take drastic actions, be bold to do things on your way because it is ultimately YOU who must decide how you will live your life, not your work or business.

In this episode you will learn:

1. Balancing work and personal life
2. Finding the purpose of your business
3. Importance of managing energy

How to Navigate Unmet Expectations

Episode #27

In this episode, Tim and Doug share valuable tips on navigating unmet expectations.

Tim shares a story of one of his men in the Alpha Reset brotherhood and how the relationship of this man and his wife turned sour for 2 years due to unidentified and unmet expectations.

Oftentimes, unmet expectations are results of uncommunicated, unidentified or hidden expectations or an expectation without possibilities.

To navigate unmet expectations, it should be communicated clearly and calmly. Navigating unmet expectations also means being able to think outside the box for possibilities or alternatives instead of expecting an exact black or white outcome.

If you’re expecting change, do not expect for a drastic one, open up the possibilities to allow the time it takes for change to happen.

If there are no possibilities within your expectation then you are setting yourself up for a guaranteed disappointment. Clear and good communication is crucial in navigating unmet expectations.

What you will learn in this episode:

  • The 2 things that cause the most stress in a relationship
  • The importance of clear communication in a relationship
  • The difference between Expectations and Possibilities
  • The importance of having a support group

It is also important to know what outcomes you are looking for and then track your performance. If things aren’t working well, change your routine. Set a routine that will improve your outcome and stick with it.

Don’t Go to War

Episode #23

Enjoy the Journey!

How often do you hear that phrase, life is a journey and it needs to be enjoyed? However being involved in a battle or war, isn’t an enjoyable experience.

In this episode, Tim & Doug present another deep discussion about what it truly means to become a powerful man and they put the case forward for ditching the idea of a physical, tough, warlike alpha male in favor of a calm, quietly confident, self-assured man as being the one we should aspire to.

As men, we are so often wired to feel like we should go to war, we should treat everything like a battle that we need to win. This mentality comes from our ancestors having to fight and battle to stay alive and even most recently in the world wars when men were recruited to go to war for their country. Still, to this day, there is a belief among many that being a man means going to war and winning a battle. Even as a metaphor this can be a dangerous way to view life. What are we really telling ourselves if this is the language we use and the outlook we have.

Tim & Doug look at what it actually means to go to war… pain, suffering, hurt, anger… these are the emotions associated with war and these will be the emotions you will encounter if you approach life like a battle or a war.

The most successful men are more often not the ones beating their chest the hardest. We have all seen people who shout the loudest about their success but these are also the people who get into more disagreements, the ones who fail to take responsibility, the ones who pass the buck… This is because are in battle mode and they are most likely extremely insecure. Tim and Doug both relate to moving from this mindset to a more calm, relaxed and confident mindset and what it did for their lives.

If you take yourself out of battle mode it’s the first step to being calm, confident and in a state of flow.  You don’t need anyone else’s approval to live the life you want and you can live a much more fulfilling and successful life by changing your mentality to be more positive. You don’t need to go to war

Things you will discover in this episode:

  • How the language we use has a direct effect on our subconscious and how we operate.
  • How being calm can improve your behavior and outcomes.
  • How the idea of battles and wars impacts our belief systems.
  • Why it’s time to ditch the cliche physical, tough, alpha male in favor of the calm self-assured man.
  • Why calm is an incredibly strong inner strength.
  • Why the loudest isn’t always the best.
  • An immediate actionable step to being a more relaxed, confident man.

Be Careful Who You Seek Counsel From

Episode #21

“You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”

In this episode, Doug brings to the table a real story of a man who was getting business advice from somebody who was completely unqualified to do so and it kicks off a discussion about the importance of surrounding yourself with like-minded people who you contribute towards your goals in business and life.

We’ve all heard the theory about how surrounding yourself with successful people who you admire will automatically rub off on you.

This sounds easy enough right, whatever you want to achieve, go find people who have done it already… but how do you know they have actually done it?! We’ve all seen coaches online who claim to be successful entrepreneurs who can teach you to be one too… but how do you know they’ve actually done it, this is the most difficult part of the process. Getting advice from someone who isn’t actually qualified is much worse than getting no advice at all.

Doug talks about how he and his wife decided to selectively choose who they would spend their social time with, this involved going out and actively looking for the people who they wanted to be most like, as a result, their mindset started to shift. He then applied the same technique to his business.

Often this will involve dropping all pride and judgment. We are automatically afraid to seek counsel and advice from others, they worry about how it will make them look… will it show my weaknesses? Yes maybe it will, but all of us have weaknesses and the most successful people are the ones that identify them and seek advice on how to overcome them.

Find out how you can surround yourself by the RIGHT people!

What you will discover in this episode:

    • How to make sure you’re surrounded by the right people.
    • The damaging effect of advice from the wrong people.
    • How to differentiate truly successful people from people who just claim to be.
    • How to seek out people you want to be like.
    • The importance of dropping pride and judgment.
    • How and who Doug and Tim used to achieve their goals.
    • How groups and networks can help.
